Have you ever felt this way before?

The weight you've been carrying keeps getting heavier.

Anxiety follows you everywhere.

Self-doubt whispers that you're failing even when you're doing everything right.

Old wounds from your past keep showing up in your present, affecting how you relate to yourself and the people you love.

You've tried managing on your own, but it’s not working anymore.

Something has to change.

How I can help

You’ve tried talking about it. You’ve tried to understand it. Maybe you’ve even made peace with where it came from, but you’re still feeling stuck.

That’s not a failure of insight. That’s a sign that the work needs to go deeper than words.

As an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience, I specialize in trauma therapy for women dealing with relational and developmental trauma—the kind that doesn’t always look dramatic from the outside, but has quietly shaped everything.

Using EMDR and IFS, we’ll get beneath the story and work with the parts of you that are keeping you stuck, so you can stop managing your patterns and start changing them.

Susan Candiloro, LCSW-R, EMDRIA certified EMDR therapist and Approved Consultant for women in NY, NYC, and FL.

What we'll focus on:

  • The anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, and harsh self-criticism that are rooted in how you learned to cope and to survive

  • Relational trauma, childhood wounds, and patterns that keep repeating in your relationships

  • Trauma and PTSD that are still living in your body, even when you “know better”

  • People-pleasing, boundary setting, losing yourself in relationships

  • The chronic feelings of emptiness or disconnection that nothing seems to touch

  • Helping you find the version of yourself you’ve been waiting to become

FAQs

What is individual therapy for trauma?

Individual therapy for trauma is one-on-one work with a licensed therapist focused on understanding and processing painful or overwhelming experiences that are still impacting your daily life, relationships, and sense of self. Unlike talk therapy, the approaches I use in my trauma-focused therapy (EMDR, IFS) work directly with the nervous system to shift things fundamentally, not just cognitively.

How is EMDR different from regular talk therapy?

Talk therapy often helps you to understand your patterns and experiences. EMDR takes it further. Using bilateral stimulation* to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they lose their emotional charge. Clients often find that EMDR creates change that talk therapy can’t touch, because it works on the level where trauma is actually stored.

*For more information on bilateral stimulation and it’s role in EMDR therapy, please refer to my recent blog post:

What is relational or developmental trauma?

Relational trauma refers to the harm that happens within relationships and includes things like emotional neglect, inconsistent caregiving, chronic criticism, or growing up in an unpredictable environment. It doesn’t necessarily include a single dramatic event. Similarly, developmental trauma accumulates over time and often shows up in adulthood as anxiety, people-pleasing, difficulty trusting others, or as a persistent feeling that there’s something wrong with you. Relational and Developmental trauma are a primary focus of my practice.

My Services

  • EMDR Therapy

You’ve carried your past for long enough. EMDR helps your nervous system finally finish processing what it couldn't at the time, so the past stops showing up in your present.

  • Internal Family Systems Therapy

EMDR therapy goes deeper and reaches farther when it’s informed by IFS’s understanding of your unique inner world.

  • EMDR Intensives

Targeted healing in 1-3 focused days. Working intensively is both more efficient for you and gentler on your nervous system compared to traditional weekly sessions.

That version of you you’ve been waiting to become? She’s been waiting there along.

You just need to be ready to find her.

If you’re a woman dealing with the long reach of relational or developmental trauma and you’re ready for therapy that goes deeper, this is that place.
